Continuing Medical Education (CME)

Education provided by dynamic resources is an integral part of improved clinician practice. MedMal Direct University

Through MedMal Direct University, we provide our insureds with free, unlimited access to a robust library of Risk Management and Patient Safety courses aimed to help reduce the frequency and severity of lawsuits, and thus also reduce the financial and emotional costs that medical malpractice allegations bring to medicine. Each course offered provides 2.0 AMA PRA Category 1™ credit hours and the curriculum was developed by Advanced Practice Strategies, Inc. in conjunction with their strategic partners including the Risk Management Foundation of the Harvard Medical Institutions (RMF), Stanford Hospital and Clinics, and Hospital Corporation of America (HCA).

FreeCME

FreeCME from ACH Media offers a wide selection of courses covering many topics and every major specialty at no charge. Over 100 free courses are offered via webcasts, webinars, newsletters and case studies and provide from 0.5 to 2.0 AMA PRA Category 1™ credit hours.

CMEweb

CMEweb from ACH Media offers a wide selection of courses in every major specialty, courses by professional association — AAFP, AAP, ACEP, and others — and hard-to-find trauma and domestic violence credits, all at a nominal charge. Over 750 courses are offered and provide from 1.5 to 3.0 AMA PRA Category 1™ credit hours at prices ranging from $15 to $45 per course.

MedMal Direct Seminars

We are currently sponsoring the Prevention of Medical Errors CME Workshop 2011 in seven locations throughout Florida. This CME workshop is free to our insureds and provides the Florida required 2 AMA PRA Category 1™ credit hours in the prevention of medical errors. You can download the registration form to sign up.

Our team of risk management professionals is available to provide customized seminars and staff presentations for physician practices, healthcare facilities, hospitals and other organizations upon request.

PDR Network Partnership

We have partnered with PDR Network and now provide our insureds with a way to access the full updated FDA labeling and label changes through electronic means and have it available at the point of prescribing. Through this partnership, MedMal Direct will help to improve patient safety and will help to protect practices by mitigating risks associated with prescription label changes and reducing medical malpractice suits involving pharmaceuticals. PDR Network also provides a means to report electronic health record events on PDR Network’s www.EHRevent.org site and to report adverse drug events on PDR Network’s www.RxEvent.org site.

Risk Management Practice Assessment

Our team of risk management professionals provides Risk Management Practice Assessments upon request. Our team of specialists will conduct on-site assessments at your office to identify your practice risk exposures, identify system deficiencies and liability exposures, and provide effective risk management recommendations and develop risk-reduction strategies. The assessment consists of an interview with key staff members, a review of selected patient records, a review of selected regulatory compliance manuals and a tour of the practice. Upon completion of the assessment, our team will deliver a confidential, written report of the assessment citing strengths and weaknesses and containing actionable recommendations to decrease risk exposure to assist in mitigating the liability exposures.

Our risk management professionals are also available to provide prompt responses to our insured physicians, office administrators, and staff by phone and/or in person.
